Content of certificates

In the event of a clean criminal record, rehabilitation or the delay of a formal charge the certificates states "not found in the central record of criminal offenders."  If there is a criminal record it will indicate the details of the sentences and obligations.

Rehabilitation does not automatically mean that personal data is deleted from the central criminal record.  In accordance with the regulations, all personal data must be stored for 3, 5, or 15 years from the time of rehabilitation or from the time a sentence comes into effect.  Once the retention period for a record expires, personal data will be deleted from the computerised database, and the documents are destroyed.  However, until such a time as the record retention period has expired an applicant will continue to be held on record, even if they have completed their rehabilitation period. In these circumstances, the Criminal Record Certificate will be issued stating "not applicable".
